Ambient sounds and the sound effects aren't playing

Post by ompal » Wed May 13, 2020 5:36 pm

I recently installed SFD, but when I first started the tutorial, there was no sound (except for the music). Please help as the game isn't that fun without the sound effects. I also double checked that all the files are present and accessible by the game and reinstalled it many times.

Check your volume mixer and the in-game settings that affect sound. Does the audio work for other programs on your computer?

The sound is fine on all the other games and programs. In the mixer, the sound of the game is like the other sounds (there was nothing running except the desktop).

EDIT #1: and the game settings are all at max.

EDIT #2: I really don't know what the problem might be, but maybe it has something to do with .xnb files ??

Did you try to modify them at all? If I recall correctly the converted sound files need to be a certain frequency or length in order to play properly in-game...

Apparently you can play .mp3 files (the music) but can't play .xnb (sound effects and others).

Probably some frameworks or files are missing, try to reinstall: DirectX, XNA Framework and NET Framework.

I don't think waves maxxaudio is a problem since all your programs and games' audio work normally.

It's rather a .xnb files reading problem since you can play the music (and they are .mp3) but you can't play sounds (.xnb files); Did you notice any other issue?

I dunno why that happens, but I'd try to run terraria since SFD and Terraria use the same programming language and the same file extension to play audio and textures. If you will face the same issue in terraria it's a framework problem, otherwise it's a sfd related problem.

Then I was right.
Try to do a clean install (uninstall and reinstall) all the frameworks and Directx..

EDIT: I forgot you can't uninstall DirectX, neither NET Framework if you're on Windows 10. I'd uninstall XNA Framework and temporarily disable the NET Frameworks from Programs and Features and restart your PC.
Now enable NET Frameworks and install XNA and DirectX and restart your PC again.

Now it's time to test SFD, if the issue persists, open Prompt of Commands (CMD) as administrator and run sfc /scannow

I've searched a bit and there are some weird and different problems that cause no audio in some games.
Sadly I can't tell you what's the exact problem, but you can try to reset the game settings and cache by deleting Superfighters Deluxe folder in: (C:\Users\YOUR-PC-NAME\Documents\Superfighters Deluxe).
WARNING: Backup your maps and scripts before!

The last solution would be to factory reset your pc

I would suggest you try to repair the .NET framework installation. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=30135
Otherwise common troubleshooting like reinstalled XNA 4.0 and updating your sound drivers - might help in your case as it seem to be isolated to XNA and its capability to play sound effects.

Sir, can you please tell me the names of the .dlls, programes, drives, and other things that are needed to run .xnb files through the game, I mean to be able to implement them in the game.

I tried the tool you have put in your reply, have the latest sound drives, and reinstalled XNA

Some old threads related to Terraria got the sound to work in Terraria by starting the game in windowed mode and then changing it back to fullscreen.
Try to start SFD in windowed mode first and then toggle to fullscreen - see if it helps. Who knows, maybe it will just work for you.

You could also try to reinstall Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downloa ... x?id=20914 in case it's some problem with the sounds in your current installation.

I tried the solution of terraria (window then fullscreen) with terraria, and the sound didn't work.

I also repaired XNA as I reinstalled it many times.

As always, sadly, no change. The sound is not playing.

Also in terraria, all of the sounds are not working and the music slider always goes to zero (although I try to move it).

Also, can the game launch if it wasn't able to read the .xnb files ?

I tried (in terraria) to remove the sound files (the .xnb files only), leaving the sound folder empty. It turned out, that it CAN. The game ran completely fine without them (but of course with a sound).

So my question is, what can block a game from reading a .xnb file ?
