I have this problem where I try to log in to the new website but it won't let me. I tried a new account and it says my name is taken. So I'm assuming the website is linked with forums, but it won't let me log in

Well, yes i can't login too. I am guessing that the website is still in contruction, our accounts are signed but not accesible.
But if you are talking about using directly your forum account it works like this:
1) go to register and write stuff as you like and write your name as your forum name
2) it will say that the name is already taken in forums
3) there is going to be a new section to write your forum password.
4) fill the others again.
5) activate your account via mail.
6) congrats.
