Super Fighters Deluxe is a very well made game, but it doesn't contain that much players
Anybody who gets a chance to see how this game looks like might find it really interesting
but if they're unfamiliar with using English, they'll just pass over.
To minimize that sorts of cases I think it's a great idea to find some people who'd volunteer for translating English into their own languages.
I don't think this task is going to be that hard, looks like there aren't that many words to work on in SFD.

Well, I have made Finnish translation for the game. And I couldn't say that it was a too small job.
Anyways. Most of these people who are "unfamiliar with english" are small kids. Think of it: If they can see that the game is in english, they'll be quiet little fighters, or they will just simply leave. BUT IF they will get this game with their OWN language, they will flood the chat with that same language. It's a psychological question. If the game is in your language, you will think witht hat language, and then you will chat with that language. If you can speak english well, that (usually) means that you are old enough to play. So, let's keep people improving their language skills, not letting them go too easy.

Added in 1 minute 10 seconds:
I can also translate the game to Russian if ya want.

This comment made me laugh because what you are afraid to happen is already happening. And not just in this game, it happens in every game. Just mute them or kick them from your server. Point of making a game is to make profit. Therefore i agree with the more language options which somehow attracts players. But the thing is that there are not so much to translate in SFD itself. A translation to the description of the game in website may help more.Motto73 wrote:Anyways. Most of these people who are "unfamiliar with english" are small kids. But Motto's right, do we want a game in which the community is split into regions where they all speak their seperate languages (meaning less community interaction). Or we can minimise what is already kind of happening by not translating the game. Sure, languages like French and Spanish (aka. languages that are widely spoken) can be translated into, but other than that I don't see a point.
Off Topic
As if I couldn't disagree with you enough, this is an absolutely vulgar statement. People make games because they're inspired, they want to have fun whilst making it, interact with its community, but more often than not its because they enjoy doing what they love. Seriously, this comment is a disgrace to a lot of game developers.Corporal Adrian Shephard wrote:Point of making a game is to make profit.

https://www.mythologicinteractiveforums ... Gurt#p4963 .I can defend my point but i really have so little time. So i will give a summary. Basically, i don't believe such words "inspriation, enjoy, etc" when the money is involved. Such words can be told for any proffesion but all i see is people that tries to earn more than what they already have. You gotta find a way to live better. And when money is involved in your life, both losses and gains , profit is the thing in humans minds. Without money such emotions does not feed you enough to do what you like to do, just like Gurt said you gotta pay for what you need at first, which makes the first thing you need is profit to keep making the things you "love" to do.Pricey wrote:Off TopicAs if I couldn't disagree with you enough, this is an absolutely vulgar statement. And of course i am talking about profit as money because thats what i meant in the first place. But if there is any game devoloper that makes the game without any money profit in their mind in the first place. I guess you can say that their profit is their emotions which is something i never encountered. But i still apologise from that people for crushing their innocent dreams, and emotions. And if they really think that such emotions really matter to them and talk about these emotions they have, i will basically ask them to make their job for free or for a really low price/salary which will not get ahead of their emotions.
And about translation for more players that doesn't know english. Do you guys realise that the game have a low amount of player base. Usually 100 - 150 people active when i play the game and I see same guys over and over again. Thing is if the game becomes popular (i really hope it becomes really successful) when it comes out as a full game there is no way to prevent people that doesnt know english to buy the game. There are already people who doesnt know english playing the game. When its popular they will not care the language, they will basically buy it. But if the game does not get popular because so little people knows about it, the game will die shortly and you will have no one to play it with. So for making the playerbase bigger and a better advertisement of the game and of course for the profit i find translating the game and the website description to other languages logical, hoping that it will bring more players which will be crucial for the game to become popular.

Future versions of SFD will contain a lot of offline content such as local coop, campaigns, challenges and AI to fight - encouraging more casual players to play SFD and enjoy playing against the AI. The online versus is just one part of the game but we're focusing on it during the development of the game mechanics in SFD as it offers a perfect test base so we could see what works and doesn't work. Localized versions of SFD will be by the community, for the community only so we won't hire any translators. We only provide the translation tool if you're curious to translate SFD.
Point of making a game is to make profit.
One does not exclude the other. We make games because we're inspired and having fun whilst making it with a future goal to work full time making games and earning money while making games. One way to do that is to sell the games we make. We have plans to sell SFD once we have the offline content in place. Playing online won't be required but might add to the total experience playing SFD.People make games because they're inspired, they want to have fun whilst making it, interact with its community, but more often than not its because they enjoy doing what they love.
